Astrobiologists say we should gene-hack Mars colonists, and even, that to not do…

Written by

Astrobiologists say we should always gene-hack Mars colonists, and even, that to not achieve this, is perhaps itself unethical.

In a current webinar, Lunar and Planetary Institute astrobiologist and geomicrobiologist Kennda Lynch argued it will be preferable to edit the human genome to outlive on Mars reasonably than terraform it to be extra hospitable.

To hack or to not hack, the talk finally comes right down to deciding what would possibly give colonists one of the best likelihood of survival on the cruel Purple Planet.

Faucet the hyperlink in our bio to learn extra about colonizing Mars.

  • Yeah if you sent people there without genemods to help them survive in lower gravity, less oxygen, and higher radiation that’s real bad. Resistance on human genetic engineering will hopefully stop because it’s absolute nonsense

  • And that’s how we become the grey men

  • Gene hacking? Terrain treatment? Water the whole planet instead 👌

  • Gene editing could allow them be there to manage an ongoing terraformation effort.

  • Would be nice to use all that brain power to solve all the issues and challenges we have on Planet Earth before starting to tinker with what we not yet even fully understand.. just saying!

  • The easiest way to successful become an interplanetary spiecies is through genetic engineering. Terraforming a plane will take a long time but we should still terra form as a long term goal

  • While I generally agree, the bigger question is not “if we should” but “how”.

  • We have yet to accept other races on earth & now you want to edit another?! …oh by the way can we figure out plastic/pollution problem

  • HACK, HACK, HACK. It’s the next step of our evolution to maximize our species survival, nature is too slow to wait for at this point. Because all in all that’s what every species’ goal is. Ultimate survival. Spread our genes across the stars and we may never be extinct. We have the best chance of any animal on Earth, why not take it?

  • To reach Mars or even terraforming, we should be thinking in reach at least the type 1 civilization, then we can jump to the moon or Mars

  • The only slugs on Mars in the future will be miners and likely robotic AI units. Mars is good for nothing much other than minerals if that, it’s a dead world and if we’re not careful we will kill this world also, and this is all we got that we can call home.

  • Earth humans and space humans will very likely deviate evolutionarily in to different species anyways, so i dont see the problem with expediting the process for the sake of the astronauts
