If we solely deal with transferring to Planet B, like Mars, it’ll be the demise of Planet A (the one we presently reside on).

There are a lot of formidable objectives for the off-world way forward for humanity — like Elon Musk’s plan to construct a metropolis on Mars, and Jeff Bezos wanting orbital house colonies — however these plans are misguided in keeping with York College anthropologist Kathryn Denning. Denning stated the thought of constructing a colony to which humanity might escape if the Earth turns into uninhabitable isn’t solely an unrealistic thought, however a harmful one as nicely.

“How can we be enthusiastic concerning the human capability to discover whereas sustaining our deal with what must occur right here on this planet?” Denning stated. Faucet the hyperlink in our bio to learn extra on Futurism.

  • Wow this is dumb. This person is acting like there are only a few hundred humans on this planet… we have billions, and 90% will stay on this planet and maintain it’s conditions for our preferences

  • I find it so funny saying “if we move”. Who are we? All species? All humans? Just representatives of the human species? How exactly can 8 bilion humans go to planet B when half of them are living in poverty here? Titles like these are just ridicules. 😉

  • It’s even more misguided to think humans can’t and WILL do both.

  • Well luckily, Kathryn. People have varied interest. So whilst u might want to stay here and improve our home and Bezos wants to explore the possibility of living in orbit, they are not mutually exclusive courses of action 🤗

  • False dichotomy… We can, and should, both save earth AND develop space exploration. Not only is it a smart insurance hedge, but the adventure of it is just so damn irresistible!

  • We need a breakthrough, someone to discover a better way to travel through space.

  • This notion is baseless an ignorant at best, at worst it completely misses the true idea of space travel and colonization… simply put, don’t put your eggs in one basket. Regardless of whether we leave the earth due to self-inflicted damages or not, we still run the risk of mother nature doing it to us… (cosmic mother nature, that is)… asteroids.. gamma bursts… we could die a planetary death in many ways, even excluding our own atrocities towards ourselves and the planet. So no, this notion of not colonizing space is not intelligent, it’s dumb.
