It’s a question scientists are asking themselves as experience like CRISPR continues to push the boundaries of natural ethics — along with the potential to hack new traits into animals that may enhance their intelligence.

In March, scientists altered monkey brains to be further humanlike, seeing an instantaneous improve inside the animals’ memory and cognitive experience. Whereas doing so continues to be inconceivable, the developments elevate the question of whether or not or not humanity would possibly someday, far eventually, make animals pretty much as good as individuals. • Crispr is simple enough that we will reach a point not-to-distant where amateurs can reasonably and selectively do it, using data collected by researchers. In other words, it’s a matter of how we should respond WHEN someone does, not if.

  • Not until we find a sustainable substitution for meat 😅 If they get too smart they’ll start asking for the same rights as us😂

  • Sure!! I say push the envelope. But that is a true pandora box that some aren’t ready to handle. Not to mention some just really aren’t prepared to be morally or ethically righteous with such dangerous and awesome technology. I mean your basically talking about the same thing that the Sumerians and pre-written history civilizations folk stories suggested/said happened to us Homosapiens in the process of modern man’s evolution. A true Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes scenario.

  • I think they made a documentary about something like this in the late sixties. Charlton Heston was in it. I think they showed it was a bad idea. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • How about we make humans smarter first? Then we’ll be better equipped to answer such questions 🙂

  • It could boost our development as a civilization… But what if they turn against us? Kinda the same delinma as we have with super smart AI and robots. There’s also the ethical problem… It would need test subs and initial ones will prob not end up being smarter (maybe even reduce their intelligence).

  • None of us want any apex predator as smart as we are🙀

  • Wow, like there’s even empirical data? It seems we want to make many things human-like, be it artificial or non-human. Does the human-like animal now consider it

  • No. We should have learnt already, by all our mistakes, that messing with nature causes irreparable damage. Our planet is a very good example.

  • Yes this puts cures in the reach of the common man and not greedy corporations that are simply legal drug dealers making money on the come back selling remedies and not cures
