Your Fourth of July fireworks have nothing on these stunning photos from Hubble….

Your Fourth of July fireworks haven’t got something on these attractive photos from Hubble. 🎆

Roughly 7,500 light-years away from Earth is a double star system known as Eta Carinae. In 1838, one in all many system’s two stars underwent a near-death experience astronomers dubbed the “Good Eruption,” and for virtually two centuries, scientists have been watching the attractive aftermath of that event.

NASA and the ESA launched new photos of Eta Carinae captured by the Hubble telescope — and possibly probably the most extravagant July 4th firework present won’t preserve a candle to this cosmic one. Whenever you’re celebrating, faucet the hyperlink in our bio to study further.

  • A bit misleading: the Great Eruption actually happened in 5662 BC, two thousand years before the first human cities and three thousands years before the Pyramids of Egypt. We just saw it in 1838 because that’s when the light / images reached us. For all we know Eta Carinae exploded during the time of Jesus and we won’t know til 5500 years from now.
